Providing Operational Support for the 2013 ING New York City Marathon
NEW YORK, NY (November 1, 2013) – In preparation for the 2013 ING New York City Marathon—the largest and most popular marathon in the world, several technology companies have contributed specialized products and services which will provide supplemental security and operational support to the popular event. A portion of these technology solutions provided to the marathon will be coordinated by EIA, Inc., (a leading networked technology integrator based in NYC).
EIA will coordinate the installation and strategic integration of solutions such as I.P. surveillance cameras provided by Sony; Video Optimized High-Performance Servers provided by Iomnis Surveillance Solutions; Milestone Systems Video Management Software (for viewing, investigation and exports)—and all of these systems will be tied together utilizing a Wireless Backbone solution contributed by Firetide.
The equipment will be integrated into the larger security footprint established and maintained by the New York City Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Bureau and the marathon’s management team. David Engel, CEO of EIA said, “We’re proud that EIA was selected as a Networked Systems Integrator for the ING New York City Marathon. We’re also appreciative of our partners, Sony, Iomnis, Milestone and Firetide, who have all provided equipment in a joint effort to ensure the largest marathon in the world has the most superior security equipment in the world.”
“With heightened security concerns and the need to deploy high-definition video surveillance, temporary wireless video networks are becoming the standard for securing special events like the ING New York City Marathon” said John McCool, president and CEO of Firetide. “The short duration of events of this type prohibits any trenching to lay permanent fiber optics, so Firetide's ability to quickly install a reliable, high-performance private wireless video network with our partners—without any permanent alterations along the race route—makes a secure wireless mesh network the ideal solution for this iconic event.”
"EIA really brings their expertise to bear in such critical and mobile deployments for operations on the fly, like the U.S. Presidential debate held last fall at Hofstra University," says Tim Palmquist, VP at Milestone Systems. "The Milestone open platform enables the integrations of these best-in-class technologies, to help ensure the safety of everyone concerned."
The ING New York City Marathon attracts some 45,000 participants, made up of both elite athletes and recreational runners who are cheered on by more than two million live spectators and a TV audience of over 300 million.
Based in New York City, EIA is one of the leading networked technology firms in America.
